BELIEVING IS SEEING is a title that should be understood as my ironic answer to the western term “seeing is believing”. You always ask for evidence or material to believe what you hear.
In this work I wanted to ask how blind people think they look themselves.
Or was “seeing” actually meant for these people or for all of us. I have asked 15 blind or severely disabled children in Germany, asking themselves to describe how they think they look themselves. While they answered me a picture was created (in about 30 to 40 minutes) and they had the opportunity to create a self-portrait through time and their own reflection. At the request to portray yourself, you have so far mostly refrained from doing it.
These pictures have colors that the portrayed people have little or no idea of, and a blurring that you cannot see your picture yourself or just as blurred in front of the mirror.
One boy in this work told me:
"I see everything black, although I don't know what is black"
“To see means to see“ with memory ”. I see what I believe. "
