In the group of “Diaspers” the intra-pictorial dependences between the line and its backing medium are literally shifted into the latter by layering the paper. There are two layers used: The upper one has a pencil drawing executed on it; this has been cut out through both layers of paper. If we pull the two layers apart what we have is an almost identical diptych. There is of course the aesthetic challenge here of seeing a set of twins boasting the same degree of perfection but the kind that has obviously not been reproduce mechanically next to each other, of comparing them and being torn between the appeal first of the one and then of the other. Indeed, it is impossible to decide whether we are talking about two autonomous works or a single entity. Sometimes, the drawing initially placed on top still has bits of pencil lead and traces of work on it, things that tell of the deconstruction of something that once was, something that imposes a narrative on the latter. The second drawing, by contrast, is immaculate but it also lacks its own history, and, like a shadow, it would be unimaginable without its “other”.
