With continuo, Giacomo Santiago Rogado presents works from the series Intuition, Coalescence, Accord and Calibra. The exhibition title refers to the idea of a continuum: a state of ongoingness in which the world appears not as an accumulation of separate entities, but as a network of relationships, transitions and reciprocal influences. This notion forms the exhibition’s point of departure, posing the question of how painting might render visible those connections that elude immediate definition.
The bringing together of different bodies of work offers an insight into the complexity and breadth of Rogado’s artistic practice. Although the works originate from distinct series, they enter into a shared dialogue within the exhibition. In doing so, they reveal not only the specific characteristics of each body of work, but also the underlying concerns that have shaped Rogado’s oeuvre for many years. The exhibition focuses on what emerges between the paintings: relationships, recurrences and shifts that are not immediately apparent, but gradually unfold over the course of sustained viewing.
Rogado’s painting operates consciously within the realm of abstraction. Paradoxically, it is precisely through its detachment from concrete objects that a particular form of connection emerges. The works dispense with unequivocal references and instead open up pictorial spaces that resist immediate categorisation. Floating forms, chromatic concentrations and translucent layers evoke associations without ever fully confirming them. Resonances of elemental and cosmic phenomena enter into dialogue with one another, generating visual constellations that defy definitive interpretation. Their openness allows multiple perceptions to coexist without reducing them to a fixed meaning.
For continuo, the exhibition spaces are conceived as a cohesive experiential environment. The individual works do not appear as self-contained units, but as components of a larger whole. Every form, colour and spatial configuration points beyond itself and exists in relation to the other works. Perception is thus understood not as a momentary act of recognition, but as a process that unfolds over time. The exhibition invites viewers to let their gaze wander and to perceive connections grounded less in certainty than in resonance.
In a present marked by visual saturation and constant availability, Rogado’s work pursues a different path. His painting does not seek immediate impact, but rather a concentrated experience. Through subtle chromatic relationships, transparent overlays and a persistent search for depth, he creates pictorial spaces that reveal themselves gradually. They do not demand attention; instead, they meet the viewer with a quiet openness. It is precisely here that their distinctive quality resides: they do not prescribe what should be seen, but open up the possibility of seeing differently.
continuo understands perception as an ongoing process that is never fully complete. The works do not propose answers. Rather, they create a space in which the visible and the imaginable, the familiar and the indeterminate, enter into relation with one another. In this way, a quiet dialogue emerges between image and viewer, in which meaning does not settle into fixed form but is continually reconstituted.
