The motifs in the work group SWEETS—branches, leaves, and foliage—are set against luminous, predominantly blue backgrounds reminiscent of summery skies. At first glance, the works create a bright, almost idyllic atmosphere. Upon closer inspection, however, it becomes clear that the scenes defy straightforward interpretation; pictorial spaces emerge that oscillate between realistic depiction and digital construction. The series was created as part of an artistic commission for the Schloss Mammern Clinic on Lake Constance. In the clinic's expansive park, the artist discovered his motifs: inconspicuous, everyday landscapes, which he documented photographically. He then subjected the images to a targeted process of digital transformation, which imbues the works with their distinctive visual language. More
