The Bernhard Knaus Fine Art gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition by the painter Aldo Cristofaro (born 1970 in Scordia, Italy, lives and works in Berlin), with whom it has been working since the beginning of 2009.
Aldo Cristofaro studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Nikolaus Lang and is a master student of the UdK Berlin with Rebecca Horn and Burkhard Held. In 2004 excursions took him to Sean Scully and Günther Förg.
Aldo Cristofaro's paintings show parallels to Art Informel or Tachism. What they have in common is the emphasis on the painterly gesture. But Cristofaro translates these established forms of painting into a current visual language that is shaped by visual impressions of city life, such as graffiti or contemporary architecture. The partly large-format works unfold their immediate sensual effect on the viewer through high-contrast, bright colors and a particularly powerful brushstroke.
