Current exhibition at Kunsthalle Barmen:
“Effort + Flow” in cooperation with the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) SFB 1701 Port-Hamiltonian Systems at the University of Wuppertal, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The exhibition “effort + flow – Mathematics and Art in Dialogue” is developed in collaboration with the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center Port-Hamiltonian Systems, which investigates fundamental models of energy flows and dynamic interactions at the intersection of mathematics, engineering, and physics. For the first time, these theoretical concepts are brought into relation with artistic works and are simultaneously used as impulses for design-oriented and artistic research.
At the core of the exhibition are works that reflect principles of mathematical modeling: energy circulating through objects and environments; forces that couple and feed back into one another; fields that organize themselves, oscillate, or seek equilibrium; and interfaces where systems meet. The exhibition features installations, objects, videos, and interactive experiments by, among others, Katja Davar, Sabrina Fritsch, Theo Jansen, Fischli/Weiss, and Thomas Rentmeister. These range from algorithmic and kinetic processes to works that make ecological or social systems visible.
