In the context of the exhibition Rhythm and on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, 2022, we are pleased to present the edition 'Komplementär'.
With the campaign UNiTE!, an action network based on UN Women has been drawing attention to the situation of women and girls in situations of violence every November for several years.
The edition 'Komplementär' consists of four unique works on paper, each measuring 30 x 24 cm.
The paintings feature Çiğdem Aky's signature brushstroke in shades of blue. Blue is the complementary color of orange and according to color theory, complementary colors highlight each other in their contrast. They generate more attention when used together than alone. UNiTE! 2022 is also about collective action and mutual reinforcement.
To support the campaign on a regional level, 20 percent of the proceeds from each edition sold will go to the Frauenhaus Frankfurt (Frankfurt Women's Shelter), which provides safe refuge for women from Frankfurt and the surrounding area.
