On Wednesday, 16 September 2026, we would like to join you from 6.30 pm to open the exhibition “Blame it on the Boogie”, featuring works by Aldo Cristofaro, in the Marble Hall at Henkell Palace in Wiesbaden.

Born in Italy in 1970, the artist Aldo Cristofaro studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Nikolaus Lang and continued his training at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he became a master student of Rebecca Horn and Burkhard Held. He also drew significant inspiration from visits to Sean Scully and Günther Förg in 2004.
Painting as an open-ended process lies at the heart of his artistic practice. Cristofaro’s works do not arise from a pre-determined composition, but develop in the course of the act of painting itself. Form, structure and pictorial space gradually take shape through gestural strokes, layers and spontaneous decisions. His works explore how order and meaning can emerge from the process of painting.
In their emphasis on the painterly gesture, Cristofaro’s paintings show references to Informel and Tachism. At the same time, he translates these traditions into a contemporary visual language shaped by the visual experiences of urban spaces. Echoes of graffiti, architecture and the dynamism of urban life find their way into his works, as does a pronounced interest in colour, rhythm and movement.
With vibrant, high-contrast colour compositions and a powerful brushstroke, the often large-scale works develop a strong physical presence. They open up pictorial spaces that oscillate between control and openness, condensation and dissolution, inviting viewers to engage directly and intensely with the painting process.
